As we begin the new 4-H year, our VES 4-H Club is off to a great start.  Since August, we have been busy serving others. We believe that service and volunteering provide opportunities for students to contribute to the community in meaningful and valued ways.
On August 17th, we sponsored a Blood Drive in the gym.  Nineteen 4-H members volunteered their services that evening.  They were rewarded with a t-shirt from the Blood Drive representative.

This year, we have 43 members in our club. We also have a Safety Chairmen and a CRD Chairmen. We are pleased to announce that we have a “Keep Up the Plants” Committee, a “Recycling” Committee, and a “Character Counts” Committee.
This year our theme is “Big or Small, 4-H is for ALL!”  We are truly living the theme.  Our school, from pre-k through sixth grade contributed to the Hurricane Harvey Drive.  We delivered seventeen boxes of nonperishable items to Our Lady of Peace Church.  Trucks brought these items to Texas to distribute to families in Texas. Many 4-H members dedicated their time helping to pack up the items.
While everyday is a great day to spread the word about 4-H, we had a great time spreading the word about 4-H during National 4-H Week.  The week started off with students receiving a “smarty” treat and a 4-H sticker on Monday. The faculty and staff were also treated to brownies and mints sponsored by our 4-H Club.  On Tuesday, a student from each grade had the opportunity to win a container filled with “big and small” treats by guessing how many treats were in the container.  On Wednesday, the entire school wore green and/or white socks representing the 4-H colors. On Thursday, each student was given the opportunity to bring his or her teacher a “green” treat.  That’s not all, on Friday, teachers and students wore a  “green shirt” to culminate the National 4-H Week Celebration.
Indeed, our VES 4-H Club has gotten off to a great start.  As the theme states, “Big or Small, 4-H is for ALL!” … Yes, this means to ALL of our VES family.  A special thanks goes to the parents of our VES family.
